How to Make Wedding Door Wreaths with Shell Buttons

Including a few DIY pieces in your wedding décor is one of the best ways to give your wedding a more personal feel. You may not think to decorate with buttons, but they can be used in unique ways that add character and fun to your wedding décor!

What are shell buttons?

Shell buttons, just as the name implies, are buttons made from shells – usually from the inside of shells. They can be made from many different types of shells. You can find the right shell button for your vibe – they come in shades of pink, gray, tan, black, and iridescent pearly white.

How to make a wedding wreath with shell buttons

To make your beautifully unique shell button wedding wreath, start with a ready-made grapevine wreath base.

Next, wrap wide ribbon matching your wedding colors around the grapevine wreath, gluing it in place as you wrap. Make sure not to wrap it too densely – you still want to be able to see a lot of the grapevine when you’re done.

Now for the fun part! Add faux flowers into the wreath by tucking their wire stems into the grapevines and gluing them in place.

Accent the flowers with a range of shell buttons. To attach a button, thread floral wire through the holes in the button, then wrap the ends of the wire into the wreath to hold the button in place. Secure it with hot glue.

Continue adding buttons and flowers until you’re happy with your new, personalized wedding wreath!
